What Is Holistic Dentistry -- And Does KYT Practice It?

Holistic dentistry is not a single defined thing. Here is what the term usually means, what KYT does that overlaps with it, and what KYT does not offer.

What Holistic Dentistry Usually Means

Holistic dentistry is not a recognized dental specialty. There is no licensing board, no certification, and no standardized definition. Different practices use the term to mean different things.

In general, it refers to dentistry that emphasizes biocompatible materials, avoiding amalgam (silver) fillings, minimally invasive treatment, and treating the patient as a whole person rather than just the immediate problem. Some holistic practices also offer ozone therapy, mercury-safe removal protocols, biocompatibility testing, and other services not found in conventional dental offices.

The underlying values, such as avoiding unnecessary treatment and using safer materials, are reasonable. The specific services and add-ons vary widely between practices.

What KYT Does That Overlaps

Composite (tooth-colored) restorations by default. KYT does not place amalgam fillings.

Minimally invasive approach. Early-stage enamel changes are monitored before any drilling is recommended. The goal is to preserve as much natural tooth structure as possible.

Written estimate before any procedure is scheduled, including insurance applied and out-of-pocket cost.

Explanation of what is being recommended and why before any treatment begins. No procedure is booked without the patient understanding the reasoning and the alternatives.

No replacement of stable, functioning restorations without a clinical reason. If a filling or crown is not failing, it stays.

What KYT Does Not Offer

Ozone therapy as an alternative to conventional cavity treatment.

Mercury-safe or DAMS amalgam removal protocols.

Biocompatibility testing for dental materials.

Cavitation treatments.

Detoxification or heavy metal protocols.

These services are available at practices that specialize in biological or holistic dentistry. If any of these is specifically what you are looking for, KYT is probably not the right fit.

Is KYT the Right Fit?

If what you are looking for is a dentist who explains the reasoning behind every recommendation, does not push unnecessary treatment, uses composite instead of amalgam, provides written estimates before anything is scheduled, and practices minimally invasively, then yes.

If you specifically need ozone therapy, a mercury-safe removal protocol, or biocompatibility testing, KYT does not offer those services.

Frequently asked questions

Is KYT Dental a holistic dentist?

Not in the way the term is usually marketed. KYT practices evidence-based general dentistry with a strong emphasis on minimally invasive care, written estimates, and explaining the reasoning behind every recommendation. KYT does not offer ozone therapy, mercury-safe removal protocols, or biocompatibility testing.

Does KYT use amalgam fillings?

No. Composite (tooth-colored) restorations are the default at KYT. Amalgam is not placed.

Will KYT remove my existing amalgam fillings?

If a filling is failing or needs replacement for a mechanical reason, it will be replaced with composite. KYT does not recommend removing stable, functioning amalgam fillings solely for safety concerns, and does not offer mercury-safe removal protocols as a specialty service.

Does KYT offer ozone therapy?

No. Ozone therapy is not offered at KYT.

What if I want a more natural approach to dentistry?

The most natural approach is keeping your teeth. KYT focuses on preserving natural tooth structure, monitoring early changes before drilling, and avoiding unnecessary procedures. If you also need specific holistic services like ozone or biocompatibility testing, a biological dental practice would be a better fit.
