Albuterol (inhaled) and your teeth
Generic name: Albuterol · Class: Short-acting beta-2 agonist
Albuterol is a short-acting bronchodilator used as a rescue inhaler for asthma and as a maintenance medication for COPD.
Albuterol can cause dry mouth and contribute to tooth erosion from frequent inhaler use, particularly in patients who use it many times a day. It also slightly raises the risk of oral thrush, although much less than inhaled corticosteroids. The rinse-and-spit habit recommended for inhaled steroids also helps with albuterol.
