Losartan and dental care

Losartan is often the alternative chosen when ACE inhibitors like lisinopril cause cough or taste changes. It causes mild dry mouth in some patients but is generally one of the better-tolerated blood pressure medications from a dental perspective. It does not cause the gum overgrowth seen with calcium channel blockers or the lichenoid reactions seen with some other antihypertensives.

Dry mouth

Never start, stop, or change a medication based on what you read here. Bring questions to your dentist, physician, pharmacist, or prescribing clinician.

KYT Framework

How KYT uses Losartan in dental planning

Medications shape the clinical picture but do not automatically change what is possible. They inform the timing, method, and coordination of care.

Structure

Does Losartan affect bone, gum tissue, saliva, enamel risk, or healing support?

Force

Will chewing, grinding, or bite pressure create added risk for vulnerable teeth or healing tissue?

Timing

Is this something to prevent now, monitor, or evaluate soon? Should coordination happen before treatment?

Stability

What plan gives the mouth the best chance to stay stable while managing this medication?
