Metformin and your teeth

Generic name: Metformin · Class: Biguanide

Metformin is the most commonly prescribed medication for type 2 diabetes and is also used for prediabetes and PCOS.

Metformin commonly causes a metallic taste in the mouth and can reduce saliva flow in some patients. Long-term use is linked to lower B12 levels, which can show up as oral burning, sore tongue, or ulcers. Blood sugar control on metformin protects healing in the same way as other diabetes medications.
