About this office

Wisdom teeth evaluation at our Fountain Valley office

Not every wisdom tooth needs to come out. The clinical question at KYT Dental Services in Fountain Valley is not whether a wisdom tooth exists — it is whether the tooth can be safely monitored, whether it is putting the second molar in front of it at risk, and whether removal should happen at our office or with an oral surgeon.

The office is on Warner Ave near the Costa Mesa border and serves patients from Fountain Valley, Huntington Beach, Costa Mesa, Santa Ana, Garden Grove, and Westminster. A written estimate is provided before any procedure begins.

Local workflow

What to expect for a wisdom teeth evaluation at our Fountain Valley office

Dr. Sun personally evaluates each wisdom tooth, explains the reasoning, and — depending on the case — either performs the in-office extraction or coordinates a referral to an oral surgeon. Evaluation and follow-up happen at this office either way.

  1. Step 01

    Evaluate each wisdom tooth individually

Position, eruption, root development, gum status, and the condition of the tooth in front are all considered. The right answer can vary across the four wisdom teeth in the same mouth — some may be candidates for monitoring while others need removal.

  2. Step 02

    Decide where the procedure happens

Fully erupted wisdom teeth that can be removed with simple technique are handled at this office under local anesthetic. Impacted teeth, partially erupted teeth that need surgical access, and cases that would benefit from IV sedation are referred to an oral surgeon we work closely with. You get a clear recommendation either way, with the structural reasoning behind it.

  3. Step 03

    Written estimate before treatment

Once the plan is agreed on, a written estimate is provided before any procedure begins. PPO benefits are reviewed whenever possible so the patient portion is clear before treatment starts — including which portions are handled at KYT and which are handled by the oral surgeon.

  4. Step 04

    In-office extraction with ridge preservation

For in-office extractions, Dr. Sun places a bone graft and a barrier membrane in the socket at the same visit. This is our standard protocol. It keeps the bone from collapsing into the empty socket and preserves your future restorative options.

  5. Step 05

Coordinated follow-up regardless of where the extraction happens

Post-op instructions, follow-up, and long-term monitoring happen at this office, whether the extraction was done in-house or by the referred oral surgeon. Patients have one consistent point of contact through recovery.

Dr. Isaac Sun evaluates wisdom teeth at this office

Dr. Sun personally examines each wisdom tooth, discusses whether removal is appropriate, and decides — with you — whether the procedure is best handled in-office or referred to an oral surgeon. He developed the Keep Your Teeth framework, a clinical decision model that weighs structure, force, time, and long-term stability before recommending any irreversible treatment. PPO benefits are reviewed whenever possible.
