Wisdom teeth evaluation in Fountain Valley

Not every wisdom tooth needs to come out. The ones that do should be addressed before they damage the teeth in front of them.

At KYT we handle the full evaluation in-house. For fully erupted wisdom teeth that can be removed with simple technique, we do the extraction here. For impacted, partially erupted, or surgical cases, we coordinate a referral to a trusted oral surgeon and stay involved through your follow-up.

What we do here, and what we refer out
Evaluation and erupted-tooth extractions in our office. Surgical cases referred to a specialist.

Wisdom teeth that come in straight, fully erupt, and are easy to clean often don't need to be removed at all.

When removal is indicated, the path depends on how the tooth has come in. Fully erupted wisdom teeth that can be removed with simple extraction technique we handle in our office under local anesthetic. Impacted teeth, partially erupted teeth that need surgical access, and cases that require IV sedation we refer to an oral surgeon we work closely with. Either way, the evaluation, the planning, and the follow-up happen at KYT.

Prevention
Removing problem wisdom teeth early prevents damage to second molars and the surrounding bone.
Ridge preservation as standard
When we extract a wisdom tooth in-office, we place a bone graft and membrane in the socket as part of the same visit, in nearly every case. The ridge stays intact, the bone does not collapse, and your future implant or restoration options stay open.
Coordinated care
We do the evaluation and the simple extractions in-house. For surgical cases, we hand you to a specialist we trust and stay involved through follow-up.
Why we don't remove every wisdom tooth
Removal is a real procedure with real recovery. We don't recommend it casually.

Some wisdom teeth are healthy, well-positioned, and serve normal function. Removing them just because they're wisdom teeth is unnecessary surgery.

Others are guaranteed problems, the kind that damage the second molar in front of them within a few years if left alone. Those we address.

We evaluate each tooth individually and give you the structural reasoning, not a default answer.

How we plan it
Specific to each tooth, and to where the procedure happens.

Wisdom teeth come in many configurations. We plan around yours, and we're upfront about which ones we do here and which we refer out.

Step 1: evaluate each wisdom tooth
Position, eruption, root development, gum status, and the condition of the tooth in front. The right answer can vary across the four wisdom teeth in the same mouth.
Step 2: decide where the procedure happens
Fully erupted teeth that can be removed with simple technique, we extract in-house under local anesthetic. Impacted teeth, surgical cases, and patients who need IV sedation we refer to an oral surgeon we trust. You get a clear recommendation either way, with the structural reasoning behind it.
Step 3: extract and preserve the ridge
For in-office extractions, we place a bone graft and a barrier membrane in the socket at the same visit. This is our standard protocol. It keeps the bone from collapsing into the empty socket, preserves the ridge contour, and protects your future restorative options. We will explain it clearly and show you the cost before anything is scheduled.
Step 4: plan the recovery
Clear post-op instructions, follow-up at our office regardless of where the procedure happened, and realistic expectations about the first few days. Most patients are back to normal within a week.
Common questions
What patients ask before scheduling.
How much does wisdom teeth removal cost in Fountain Valley?
At KYT, an in-office extraction of an erupted wisdom tooth typically runs $800 to $1,500 per tooth, all-in. That includes the extraction plus a bone graft and membrane in the socket, which is our standard protocol for ridge preservation. Impacted, partially erupted, or surgical cases are referred to an oral surgeon, where pricing typically runs $400 to $900 per tooth and roughly $1,500 to $3,500 total when all four are surgical with IV sedation. Most PPO plans cover medically necessary wisdom teeth removal at 50 to 80 percent. We confirm the full estimate and your coverage before anything is scheduled.
Do all wisdom teeth need to come out?
No. Wisdom teeth that erupt fully, sit in alignment, and are easy to clean often don't need to be removed. We evaluate each one individually based on position, gum health, and risk of future problems. We don't recommend removal as a default.
Do you remove wisdom teeth in-house or refer to an oral surgeon?
Both, depending on the tooth. Fully erupted wisdom teeth that can be removed with simple extraction technique we do in our office under local anesthetic. Impacted teeth, partially erupted teeth that need surgical access, and patients who need IV sedation we refer to an oral surgeon we work closely with. The evaluation and the follow-up happen here either way, so you have one consistent point of contact.
Is wisdom teeth removal painful?
The procedure itself is comfortable. For simple in-office extractions, local anesthetic is typically all that's needed. For surgical cases, the oral surgeon manages anesthesia and IV sedation as appropriate. Recovery has some soreness and swelling for the first few days, and most patients describe it as easier than expected.
How long is the recovery from wisdom teeth removal?
Most patients are back to normal activities within 3 to 7 days. Soft-tissue healing continues over the following weeks. We give you specific guidance on what to eat, when to return to exercise, and what to watch for, regardless of where the procedure was done.
Should I remove all four wisdom teeth at once?
If all four are candidates for removal and the case is straightforward, doing them in one session is often easiest. If some are erupted and some are impacted, the surgical cases are usually handled together by the oral surgeon, and we may do the simpler erupted ones in our office. We coordinate the timing so you have one recovery period whenever possible.
Is IV sedation available?
For straightforward in-office extractions, local anesthetic is typically all that's needed. For cases that require IV sedation or general anesthesia, we refer to an oral surgeon, who manages sedation as part of the surgical care. We help you choose the path that fits your case.
