NSAIDs (anti-inflammatory pain meds)
Naproxen and your teeth
Generic name: Naproxen · Class: Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)
Naproxen is a long-acting NSAID used for arthritis pain, menstrual cramps, dental pain, and other inflammatory pain.
Naproxen is one of the most common medication causes of oral lichenoid reactions (white lacy patches that look like oral lichen planus). It can also worsen bleeding during and after dental procedures due to its antiplatelet effect, similar to aspirin but reversible. Long-term daily use raises gum disease and bleeding concerns more than the medication itself raises tooth concerns.
