Rivaroxaban (Xarelto) and your teeth
Generic name: Rivaroxaban · Class: Direct oral anticoagulant (DOAC)
Rivaroxaban is a direct oral anticoagulant used to prevent stroke in atrial fibrillation and to treat or prevent DVT and pulmonary embolism.
Rivaroxaban is managed similarly to Eliquis (apixaban). It increases bleeding during and after dental procedures, but the effect clears within a day of the last dose. Most routine dental work, including most extractions, can be done without stopping the medication, with timing planned around the dose schedule.
