Nifedipine and your teeth

Generic name: Nifedipine · Class: Calcium channel blocker

Nifedipine is a calcium channel blocker used for high blood pressure and angina, including some forms used in pregnancy.

Nifedipine is one of the textbook causes of medication-induced gum overgrowth, similar to amlodipine. The mechanism, the appearance, and the management are essentially the same: improved home care, professional cleanings, sometimes gingivectomy, and coordination with the prescribing physician about alternatives.
